Review: His Darkest Embrace (E-ARC)

Release Date: November 1, 2010
Type of Book: Paranormal Romance
ISBN No. 0061808806
Book Blurb from Amazon:
A solitary hunter with no regard for the human world, Jagger Castille is a shifter living on the edge. A woman who calls him enemy will give him reason to live . . .
Jagger is a creature of the night—Skye Knightly soars in the sun. Natural adversaries, they are now joined in a mission entrusted to Skye's family centuries ago: nothing less than the salvation of the Earth.
Wounded and bitter, Jagger sought escape in the solitude of the jungle, driven by a need to disappear forever . . . until a mysterious shifter who calls to his soul and feeds a yearning long forgotten pulls him from his dark path. A courageous warrior, Skye's passion is equal to Jagger's—but can she trust a man whose secrets are as devastating as her own?
Each is the other's sole hope for survival. But a dark and twisted truth is leading them toward the ultimate sacrifice for a love they may never live to claim.

MY REVIEW
Jagger Castille is a Jaguar Warrior who has gone into a self imposed exile in the jungles of Belize and has not been in human form for two months. Skye Knightly is an Eagle Knight Shifter who is on a mission to close the demon portal that her father had died trying to seal it. Fast on her heels is the big bad Cormac O'Hara who wants to reach the portal first.

Jagger comes to Skye's rescue and tries to help her with her mission. His brothers also help out where they can.
Unfortunately (and do not hate me) I did not particularly like this book. I did not feel the connection between Jagger and Skye at all. It was not until the last chapters that I thought the story started to flow. Very choppy in parts and confusing when switching between characters. I do see the potential with this series with all the characters that are introduced. (especially Declan, can't wait for his story!) The final fight scene was engaging and tense. This book does have lots of different supernatural beings and I did love the eagle shifter aspect. It is something different that not too many other paranormal writers are writing about.
