Audio Book Review: Carrie and Me by Carol Burnett

Read by: Carol Burnett
Publication Date: April 9, 2013
Format: Audio CD Unabridged
Source: publisher

Carrie and Me is the story of Carrie Hamilton’s life through the eyes of her mother, Carol Burnett. The reader is taken behind the scenes in a sense into the not so glamorous early childhood of Carrie. Carrie struggles with addiction and during this time she and her mother have a really rocky relationship. After several attempts at recovery she finally comes into her own and sets to discover herself. Carrie finally finds peace in Colorado and discovers a passion for writing and music.

When I started listening to Carrie and Me I thought it would be an in depth look into Carol and Carrie’s relationship. What I found was a very glossed over quick history of what happened. Not that it wasn’t heartfelt, because it was, but Carol never really goes into details of Carrie’s tumultuous childhood. Instead Carol focuses more on Carrie’s life after her drug recovery and the woman she became. Which I suppose was the point of this loving tribute. We discover all the ups and downs of Carrie’s life through emails and phone conversations with Carol and for the conclusion Carol shares Carrie’s unfinished book. Once finished you know how much Carol did love her daughter and how unfortunate that such a talent was taken from this earth far too soon.
