Blog Tour Guest Post + Giveaway: A Day in the Life of Inge-Lise Goss

A Day in the Life of Inge-Lise Goss
by Inge-Lise Goss

This morning the sun streamed into the bedroom around 6 a.m. and woke me up before I finished dreaming about spiders invading a coffee shop. I turned away from the window and attempted to capture the dream again. After tossing and jerking around in bed for fifteen minutes, I gave up and forced my feet to the floor. Now I knew that I’d have to wait until I dozed off tonight to find out if the spiders got away. Bummer!

I slipped on a pair of yoga pants and a t-shirt and trudged down the stairs to the rowing machine looming in the corner in anticipation of my arrival. There, I stuck ear buds in my ears, flipped on the music, and listened to rock-n-roll while I rowed to the beat for twenty-five minutes. As I continued enjoying the music, I headed out the front door and walked a couple of miles.

Feeling sweaty when I returned home, instead of grabbing a bottle of water, I gulped down a cup of coffee. While I kept an eye on the quail family that had taken residency in the ivy surrounding our patio, I poured a bowl of cereal and drenched it with blue berries. Breezing through the newspaper, I chatted with my husband about a few of the articles. Then I filled my coffee mug and moved to the den on the second floor.

After turning on my computer, I checked emails. Satisfied I had responded to everything, well, almost everything, that needed my attention, I opened the file containing my current project. My daily goal was to be writing by 10 a.m. Most of time I managed to make that hour work, and today was no exception. That was also the time when my muse was up and ready to get to work. In fact, she pouts when I’m running late or she’s been ignored for a few days.

Shortly after eleven, Bran, our dog began to wildly bark, dislodging me from the story flowing onto the pages. I looked out the window and saw a UPS man delivering a package. My husband went to the door to fetch it. I returned to writing, but it took me about ten minutes to become immersed.

Enjoying the adventure flashing through my mind as my fingers punched the keyboard, the alarm buzzed on my computer. Glancing at the bottom of the screen, I saw “4:00 PM,” time to wrap up my writing, but my muse kept me at the computer for another fifty-five minutes. It was almost cocktail hour when I finally hit the safe button, leaned back in the chair, and closed my eyes. I gathered my thoughts and put the story to rest for the day.

I quickly discarded my yoga pants and t-shirt, and hurried into the shower. As soon as I stepped out of the bathroom, cocktails were poured. After dinner, I curled up on the couch and read until the doorbell rang. I had completely forgotten that I had promised I’d do a tarot reading for a friend, but I never let on how surprised I was to see her. We polished off a bottle of wine as the cards were turned over. At 11:30 p.m. I crawled into bed and hoped I’d dream about the spiders in the coffee shop.
